Past Event Highlights

Rideshare Month

SLO County APCD encouraged SLO County residents to change the way they commute during Rideshare Month (October 2011)- Commute for Cash. Rideshare Month paid individuals to save money on commute costs with daily prizes, $100 cash giveaways, and free incentives for trying sustainable transportation such as walk, bike, carpool, vanpool, bus and/or working from home.

Savor the Central Coast

Savor the Central Coast was sponsored by Sunset Magazine. The event ran from September 29 through October 2, 2011. SLO Car Free had an exhibit in concierge booth.

South County Particulate Matter Workshop

The APCD hosted a public workshop to share information on recent developments related to the particulate matter impacting the Nipomo Mesa. The workshop was held at the Ramona Garden Park Center, 933 Ramona Avenue, Grover Beach on September 7, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.

Conservation Celebration at the Charles Paddock Zoo Atascadero

The SLO County Air Pollution Control District and the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition participated in the CONSERVATION EVENT, at the Charles Paddoock Zoo in Atascadero and on September 24, 2011. Zoo goers learned how local action can have far-reaching effects and were shown how to get involved and support local organizations making a positive global impact.

Mid-State Fair

The APCD, Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition, and Rideshare hosted a booth at the Mid-State Fair (July 20 through July 31, 2011). Fair attendee were able to learn about alternative fuel vehicles, and alternative modes of transportation.

May was Bike Month

Bike Month is a national and local movement that occurs annually each May. San Luis Obispo County's Bike Month is a program of Rideshare, and is powered by dedicated and energetic volunteers in our community who like to have fun and ride bikes. 

Save the Date for Earth Day 2011- “Growing the Village”

This year's theme was “Growing the Village”. The event was held at El Chorro Regional Park and the San Luis Obispo Botanical Gardens on April 23, 2011. The following organization layed the foundation for Earth Day 2011:
Earth Day Alliance, SLO Botanical Gardens, Air Pollution Control District, ECOSLO, City of SLO Tree Division, SLO Green Build, SLO RTA, Eco Planners and Rideshare.

Grant Workshop

On February 24 the APCD and Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition (C5) hosted a grant workshop- aimed at enhancing local businesses awareness on the over $825,000 in grant funding available for alternative fuels, school buses, on-road trucks, off-road construction equipment, and agricultural tractors and engines. The workshop also provided local fleet operators an opportunity to learn about the changes to ARB's regulations affecting various categories of diesel engines, and the steps needed to apply for grant funds. 

In addition, there was a discussion on money available through the State.

The workshop was held at the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.

P2 Challenge

September was Pollution Prevention Month. This year, APCD kicked off the Pollution Prevention School Challenge-engaging youth to think of ways they can reduce air pollution at their school or classroom.Winning projects will be displayed at the Government Center November 15 through December 3, 2010.

Earth Day 2010

On April 22, 2010 the Central Coast Clean Cities Coalition (C5) will host a green car show at Farmers' Market in downtown San Luis Obispo. This will be a great opportunity to see the latest in alternative fuel vehicle technology. The car show will be on Broad Street between Higuera and Monterey. Stop by and check out the vehicles.

On April 24, 2010 the APCD will be participating in the Earth Day celebration at Mission Plaza in San Luis Obispo. A variety of information will be available on ways to reduces air pollution.
